#101 How To Do It, Check or Install Timing Marks on Harley V-Twin Flywheels S&S EVO Shovelhead
This method works for all single crankpin V-twin flywheels and singles.
This does not work on crank fire or notched style flywheels that use a timing sensor like Harley Twin cam motors and Newer models with fuel injection.
This means it only works on the 1st hundred years of carbureted Harley's, not the fuel injections model Harley's.
Here are some ignition timing ranges for you to use.
Flathead, 30-42 degree, stock was 30-32 degree
Sportster Ironhead, 39-50 degree, stock was 39 & 45 degree
Sportster Evo, 30-38 degree, stock was around 30-32 degree
Big Twin models 1936-1999, 30-38 degree, stock was around 30-32 degree
For Racing I mark my flywheels every 10 degree up to 60 degree and put smaller marks at 5 degree incumbents. You can guess down to 1 degree with these marks.
