As you go through the story in Chapter 11, you'll be introduced to the "Bed of Styx", an illegal bloodsport arena that pits criminals that the law couldn't prosecute against each other in the hopes of commuting their crimes. Majima takes a look at this den of horror and says, "Me too," so after your initial story-based three-round fight, you'll be able to return at any time and engage in tournaments for money. Simply go to the boat parked in the river and speak to the guy on the dock to have him take you there.

Kiryu can also access the Coliseum starting in Chapter 13 when he visits Sotenbori. Majima and Kiryu do not share rank, so each one will have to be built up individually if you wish to have both participate.

You'll start your fighting career at the bottom: Rank G. You increase your rank by fighting in tournaments and earning money. Money directly translates to your progress in the tournament, so the more cash you can get, the better your progress. At the outset, you'll have access to two tournaments, with more as your rank increases.

Tournaments themselves are simple one-on-one fights, and you have to win three fights to win the tournament. Rules are specific to the tournament you pick, but the base rule set is as such:

You enter the tournament with the health and heat you started with.
You will restore 30% of health when you defeat the first and second opponents.
There are three types of armaments rule sets:

Bare-handed: Only unarmed fighting is allowed. You can switch between any of your styles, including Slugger or Legend.

Free-for-all: Any styles and weapons you could be carrying are allowed. Even guns.

Weapons Only: You'll have to pick from a set of weapons to begin and can only use that weapon. More information is below.

You can not use items to restore your health.
You will not be able to use Gear or Accessories, and you can use equipped weapons only in Free-for-all style.
During fights, you may be asked to perform a "Crowd Pleaser". Perform the specified action to get a bonus on your winnings.
If defeated, you will be ejected back to the coliseum door with one health. Furthermore, even if you win, you will not have your health restored, so make sure you heal up between tournaments if you need it.

At the end of a tournament, you'll be given money based on how far you got, how many Heat Actions you performed, how many Crowd Pleasers you performed, and how many perfect rounds you had. You cannot lose money through tournaments, as you'll always get a base amount for your rank, so there's no losses here apart from health.

Here are the ranks and the money earned you need for each one:

Rank F - 5 mil

Rank E - 15 mil (10 more)

Rank D - 30 mil (15 more)

Rank C - 90 mil (60 more)

Rank B - 200 mil (110 more)

Rank A - 500 mil (300 more)

Rank S - 1 bil (500 more)
