I was born into a family where girls were married off the moment they got their first period — some as young as 12. We were told it was culture. We were told it was normal. We were told we had no choice.

When I was 15, my parents arranged my marriage to a much older man whose previous wives had died young. The night before the wedding, I escaped through a bathroom window, barefoot and bleeding, and ran for my life.

This is the story of how I learned that abuse can hide behind tradition, how one teacher and a few strangers helped save me, and why “family” does not always mean safe.

This story is shared to raise awareness about forced marriage, child abuse, and cultural coercion — and to remind anyone living in silence that help exists, and escape is possible.
