I finally got around to editing this. I didn't ever plan on it, actually, but figured it gave me something to do. I took a trip from Alliance to the heart of the Powder River Basin. I did more on the photography side, as I have been the past year. Occasionally I'll break out the ole trusty GoPro and give it a go. I began in Alliance, followed the BNSF Angora Sub south towards Northport where the BNSF Valley Sub breaks west towards Guernsey, which I followed. At Guernsey, the Canyon Sub begins (or ends- glass half full or half empty?) and splits at Bridget Jct into the Orin Sub towards Gillette and the Casper Sub towards Casper (who knew?). From there, I found my way near MP 110 on the Orin Sub. A quiet country road with an overpass above the triple track made a nice place to hang out. I finished my night there with a pair of H2 SD70MAC's in the last few minutes of twilight, and then drove up and stayed the night in Gillette. The following morning, I drove back, exploring near some of the mines, and spent time once more at 110. From there, I jumped on US 20 and followed the BNSF Butte Sub from Crawford to Belmont, where I filmed the helpers cutting away for the first time ever. Then I continued back to Alliance. It was a nice trip!
For those that are curious about events in my personal life, I moved from Illinois to Nebraska for a new employment opportunity. I work for a company with a lot of orange paint, and I really enjoy it. There's a lot for me to see here in western Nebraska. The people are friendly, the scenery is so much nicer than the corn fields of Illinois, the mountains of Colorado aren't too far of a drive away, and I'm making even more money here than I did at the other place with a lot of black paint. It has its ups and downs, of course, as any job will. But the opportunities available to me here in western Nebraska are just amazing, and I'm thankful that I have the privilege of being able to do what I do every day. So enjoy this little bit of a few days off well spent. I hope to try to do more of this in the future, although I've taken more to the photography side of things since my good friend in Illinois sold me his old DSLR camera.
