Scientists believe that the Al Hajar Mountains were formed by a continental collision near the Arabian–Eurasian convergent plate boundary more than 70-million years ago. The name Al Hajar translates into ‘Al’, which means ‘the’, and ‘Hajar’, which means ‘stone’; when the words are combined, the name translates into ‘The Stone’.



Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais, at 1,934 metres tall, usually records temperatures that are 10°C cooler on average than other popular landmarks across the country.

During summer months, temperatures at all the major landmarks across the emirates average between 43 – 45°C while at the Jebel Jais summit temperatures reach a moderate 31°C during the day time and 29 °C during the late afternoon.

If you are a thrill-seeker, you will enjoy the adrenaline-fueled Jais Flight, the world’s longest zipline experience that takes you at knee-trembling speeds of between 120 kmph and 150 kmph for almost three minutes across deep ravines, canyons and through jagged peaks that lie 1680 metres above sea level. The family-friendly Jais Sledder allows you to reach up to 40 kmph as you hurtle down the mountains swerving through 1,885 exhilarating metres of chicanes with views of the spectacular mountain range.
