STORYLINE:
The Syrian government sent reinforcements to east Aleppo province on Wednesday, following days of clashes in the northern city.

Military and government vehicles were seen heading to Deir Hafir, which it has designated as a “closed military zone.”

The move comes as negotiations over the integration of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syria’s national army remain stalled.

Aleppo province has been a tense frontline, dividing areas under the Syrian government and large swaths of northeastern Syria under the SDF.

Independent monitoring groups also reported an influx of military units near Deir Hafir in response to what state media described as a mobilization by the SDF and other armed elements.

Both sides accuse the other of shelling positions there, with the Syrian government saying it is responding to attacks and the SDF denying a significant buildup of its forces in the area.
