On Saturday 21 June 2025, Stichting Polderpioniers Flevoland held a special edition of their monthly open day in Swifterbant (Flevoland). In addition to the museum, which focuses on the reclamation and exploitation of the IJsselmeerpolders, this day was colered "Old Highway" yellow by the Caterpillar brand. The iconic manufacturer from the US will be 100 years old in 2025 and the Polderpioniers did not want to let that pass unnoticed. Caterpillar Collectors with Track-Type Tractors from all over the Netherlands came to Swifterbant.
There were all sorts of classic Caterpillar Track-Type Tractors and Dozers on display. From the Fifteen from 1931 to the Caterpillar D4C from the early 1960s. Many of these tractors were used in the development of the polders in the 1930s to the 1980s.
The showpiece was the Caterpillar D9E of Mr. Frits van Middendorp. This Track-Type Tractor was bought new at the time by the contractor Van Damme from Wieringerwerf. In the polder this mastodon was used for deep ploughing and deep digging. This yellow monster returned to Flevoland one more time so that the many visitors could admire it.
Sander and Wouter travelled all the way from Zeeland to experience this unique event. It was well worth the long journey!
