4K | Maier 2-Stroke Butane Gas Engine

A particularly clever aspect of the engine's design is the ignition system which uses a piezo-electric crystal. An eccentric on the main shaft is applying pressure to a lever which deforms the piezo crystal. The piezo crystal in turns generates sufficient voltage for the miniature spark plug to generate a spark which ignites the gas/air mixture. Using a piezo crystal to generate an electric spark is an an old idea - the same principle is used in electric ligthers, but the idea of using it in a model engine is (to the best of my knowledge) quite unique, and solves the age-old problem of creating a simple, light-weight and reliable ignition system for miniature combustion engines without resorting to external power supplies such as batteries.
