Kinbane Castle's ownership history includes the MacDonnell clan who built it, followed by the MacAlister family who were rewarded for their loyalty, and later the Woodside family who purchased it before it fell into ruin. The MacAlisters were the last inhabitants, with a Mrs. MacAlister reportedly living there in the late 18th century.
MacDonnell clan:
The castle was built by Colla MacDonnell in 1547, and his family held it until it was gifted to the MacAlisters.
MacAlister family:
Sorley Boy MacDonnell gave the castle to the MacAlisters as a reward for their loyalty, and the family inhabited it until the 1700s.
Woodside family:
The Woodside family from Ballycastle later purchased the castle and the associated fishery.
