90,000 Nashville residents without power for nearly a week as questions of NES preparedness arise

Описание: More than 90,000 Nashville Electric Services customers are still without power Thursday morning, nearly a week after an ice storm hit the Midstate.
The winter storm arrived in Middle Tennessee Saturday, with many customers reporting outages as early as Saturday. Almost a week later, FOX 17 News continues to ask NES is they were prepared enough for the storm.
The number of outages did decrease significantly from Sunday night, where more than 210,000 customers were without power, but the outage impact has prompted questions about if NES was staffed appropriately after the storm.
What's the current situation?
As of 8 a.m., NES has restored power to 140,000 customers, but about 90,000 remain without power. The storm caused 426 broken poles across the service area.
NES has deployed more than 930 line workers, including teams from several states, to assist with restoration efforts. By noon, the number of line workers will increase to 963.
NES warns of scams involving individuals charging $2,200 for meter base repairs. Customers should verify contractor credentials, get a second opinion and avoid pressure tactics.
How many customers lost power?
At the peak of the outages, 230,000 people were without power. NES company officials say this is the most they could ever recall.
“This is probably on record as the most severe outage NES has ever had,” said Brent Baker, NES Chief Operations & Innovation Officer.
