Palouse Falls plunges 200 feet into a basalt canyon in southeastern Washington, a remnant of ancient Ice Age floods. Surrounded by rugged cliffs and dry grasslands, it’s a powerful, isolated landmark in Palouse Falls State Park—both geologically significant and visually striking.
Filmmaker Roman Khomlyak set out to capture Palouse Falls in dramatic slow motion, choosing the FreeFly Wave high-speed camera paired with the Rokinon Cine DS 5 Lens Kit with a Canon EF mount. His goal was to showcase the waterfall’s raw power as it crashed into the canyon below. While the camera isn’t ideal for standard video due to its limitations and high cost, it excels at slow-motion footage, making it the right tool for Roman’s vision.
