Igloo TRAILMATE Journey 70 QT handle upgrade Drilling holes on plastic cooler to mount Marine handle
I received this cooler as a gift and found it difficult to lift without a handle on one side. I was able to purchase an authentic igloo handle that is used on the more expensive higher model Igloo TRAILMATE Marine 70 QT cooler. I figured we can upgrade our cooler to add features of the more premium cooler model at a fraction of the cost.
I looked on YouTube to see if there was a video on how to drill into a cooler and there are mixed ideas on how to do it. To pre-drill pilot holes or not to pre-drill. Some people installed the screws directly into plastic coolers. I didn’t want the screws to run off the center, so I drilled little pilot holes that are 1/16”. This still left plenty of plastic for the screws to secure onto the cooler.
