The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ is a critical indicator of the health of the world’s biodiversity. It is therefore important that assessments published on the IUCN Red List are transparent, fully documented, data-driven, and that the IUCN Red List Criteria have been applied correctly.
Aired on 21st April 2022, this is the first in the series of IUCN Red List webinars. In this webinar, Resit Akçakaya (Chair of the IUCN SSC Standards and Petitions Committee) discusses some of the common misunderstandings when applying the Red List Criteria, and how to improve the chance of your assessments being published on the IUCN Red List.
Topics covered in this webinar include:
Incorporating data uncertainty into Red List assessments;
Calculating generation length;
Understanding what is meant by severe fragmentation; and
Considering the effects of climate change when applying the Red List Criteria.
