Octopus's Garden- The Beatles (Guitar Cover) including LOST George Lead Guitar

While listening to Ringo's isolated drum track, I faintly heard George's lead electric being picked up by the drum mics. This revealed the full, unedited guitar take from that day. There were lots of licks that got erased in the final mix, so I'm presenting them to you here for the first time!

Octopus's Garden is the final Ringo-written song to be released by The Beatles, on their album Abbey Road. It was recorded on April 26, 1969 at EMI studios. The backing track was recorded live, consisting of John and George on electric guitars, Paul on RIckenbacker bass, and Ringo singing and playing drums. Overdubs included piano, vocals, and George blowing bubbles in a glass of milk

Photos from this day prove that George played his Fender Rosewood Telecaster, John fingerpicked his Epiphone Casino, and Paul played his Rickenbacker 4001 bass, sanded down. John and George plugged into their 1968 Fender Twin Reverb amps. You can hear their clean guitars, without effects on the 2019 Abbey Road super-deluxe box set

As mentioned above, John's Casino was recorded clean into the Twin Reverb amp. The effect you hear on the album mix is ADT/Tape Flanging, that was added after the fact. He did NOT plug into a Leslie speaker. John utilized the Travis-fingerpicking technique that he learned in India, from Donovan. As seen in the session photos, he's using the bridge pickup (down) position

I'm playing my 2021 USA Epiphone Casino into a 1974 Fender Pro Reverb amp. I'm using an Analogman King of Tone to boost the amp, and a Strymon Deco pedal to emulate the sound of the tape flanging

For George, I'm using a 2010's Fender MIJ Rosewood Telecaster, also into the 1974 Fender Pro Reverb. Thanks ‪@wmvansise8797‬ and Eric for lending it to me! Like George, I'm on the neck pickup. I'm also using the Analogman King of Tone to boost the Pro Reverb for this tele part

Here are George's parts that are not heard on the album mix:
0:12 a quick B to E to Csharp on the A and D strings, 9th and 11th frets
0:19 a descending lick on the g and hi e strings, similar to dig a pony
0:26 very lightly played E notes, on the G string
0:36 a nice penatonic riff on D and G strings
0:52 after his lick at the end of the chorus, he slides up the g string
1:00 a bluesy lick in the B-bar position (7th-9th frets)
1:11 another descending g/e string lick, this time starting high on 11th fret
1:23 slides from Eb/B on g and e, to Gsharp/E
1:27 two syncopated E notes
1:59 penatonic riff on D and G strings
2:03 another 11th fret descending B major lick
2:09 double stops on D and G, 9 and 11th frets
2:14 similar to the lick at 30 seconds
