On this Remembrance Day, we had another incredible day in the mountains! The morning started off a little rocky with a small mix-up on our meeting spot 🫣, but by 7:48 a.m., we were on the trail, this time with Maverick joining the adventure. I knew he could handle the distance and the wind, and he proved me right… minus a little pulling here and there 😖.
I’d only done the North Summit before, but adding the two other summits made this hike truly complete. The views from the deeper section of the ridge are absolutely worth every extra kilometer and bit of elevation gain.
The ascent to the North Summit is steep but never sketchy or intimidating. Once you reach the small ridge below the top, the views open wide, revealing a stunning panorama of familiar peaks, Nihahi Ridge, Mount Glasgow, Garriochmill, Remus and Romulus, Banded Peak, to name just a few. You can even spot Forgetmenot Pond down near the parking lot.
At the North Summit, the wind was howling, so we didn’t linger long. We signed the pink summit registry and continued toward the Ridge Summit. The trail between the summits is straightforward, with a short and fun scramble that Maverick tackled with ease.
As we finished the scramble, 11 a.m. struck. We stopped for a minute of silence to honor, first, my husband Steve, currently on a six-month military mission in Latvia, and second, my young son who joined the military last summer. And of course, we remembered all the brave soldiers who gave their lives for their country. 🙏🪖 Lest we forget
The toughest section came right after that, crossing a long field of broken rock slabs. I worried for Maverick’s paws, but he moved through it like a champ. From the Ridge Summit, the final peak still looked so far away… but we were already there, so we had to push on!
We lost quite a bit of elevation before climbing again, more slabs, more wind… We thought we’d reached the top, but nope… another hidden rise! 😂 Carey even threw me her legendary flipping finger when we realized we weren’t there yet😂 So we kept pushing toward that pink summit box in the distance, only to spot yet another cairn beyond it. It felt never-ending😖! Mav needed a little boost on the short downclimb between the pink box and the further away cairn, but he handled it like a pro. The view from the final peak was amazing, we could see the entire front mountain range we can spot from Cochrane and Calgary. Pretty cool!
We snapped a few photos before heading down. The wind shifted constantly, one moment calm, the next fierce, so it was a “layer on, layer off” kind of day. By the time we reached the trailhead, the gusts had eased, and we ended our Remembrance Day adventure tired, grateful, and full of mountain memories once more🥰
