Aarburg Switzerland 4K Where Aare River flows backwards

Описание: Aarburg is a wonderful old town in Switzerland where the Aare river flows backwards. Aarburg lies close to Olten City and belongs to the canton of Aargau.
The landmark of the medieval town is the church standing on a rocky terrace and the fortress behind it. The church was built in neo-Gothic style from 1842 to 1845 and has two steeples.
At the beginning of the 12th century, the castle was built under Bernese rule and was expanded into a mighty fortress complex. The building complex is a cultural asset of national importance and today serves as a cantonal youth centre.
The town was founded around 1312 and the inhabitants lived mainly from the customs revenue generated by trade on the Gotthard route.
The special feature of the Aare at Aarburg is a unique natural spectacle, the likes of which are no longer to be found in Europe. The flow conditions, which due to the right-angled discharge in a northerly direction and the impact of the main flow against the rock of the spur of the fortress, form a powerful counter-current, the so-called "Aare-Woog".
