I imported a car from Brazil. Customs stole the keys!?

Описание: I imported a 1980 Chevrolet Chevette from Brazil to the USA, but the journey turned into a total nightmare. The full story is for another time, this is when we went to pick it up!

Plus, this might just be the ONLY Brazilian Chevette Hatchback registered in North America. 🤯

Back in 2019, my wife bought this Chevette for me while visiting family in Brazil. After months of prep, it was finally loaded into a shipping container in June 2020.

The route was a little crazy: Santos 🚢➡️ Cartagena 🚢➡️ New York 🚂➡️ Chicago. It even missed its train due to massive delays in New York!

When the day finally came to pick it up, we drove through the pouring rain from Indianapolis to Chicago, only to be handed the paperwork with NO KEYS. Customs in NY had kept them! Watch to see how we managed to load a car with a locked steering wheel onto a trailer, survived a Google Maps disaster that sent us down closed construction zones and back-country gravel roads, and finally got this incredibly rare BDM (Brazilian Domestic Market) classic safely home. (Spoiler: The keys showed up in the mail a few days later!)
