I am a Masters's Degree student in Mechatronic Engineering at Ulster University. This video is about the assembly process of an Open-Source 3D-printed microscope by Openflexure.org which I have chosen as my final year project.
The microscope is intended to provide low-cost diagnostics for developing nations, clinical trials are currently in progress in Tanzania to identify Malaria infections in blood.
This video is intended to help individuals build the v7 Openflexure Microscope and serve as an instruction-type video.
Parts of the video failed to render such as 6:09 to 6:11 where it did not show me choosing the image software in my downloads folder and 7:05 to 7:08 where it did not render me plugging my ethernet cable to my laptop.
The 3D prints were printed using an Ultimaker S5 printer and the electronics were sourced from multiple websites, full Build of Materials Excel sheet is available on Openflexure.org which includes links to suppliers all over the world but I found the equivalent locally or that were Ireland & UK based so that it was cheaper.
Estimated price of materials for the whole project is between £300 to £350.
Thanks for watching!!!
EDIT: @ 1:47 to 1:51 The PiCamera LENS is the wrong way around, make sure you do not copy this part.
This will cause the microscope to have a longer focal length of 17mm instead of 1mm which is what is intended.
