5 Lagoons Trek | 5 Lagunas Trek | Bariloche (Coloniza Suiza - Pampa Linda)
My sincerest apologies for the late release! 2 days before my scheduled post my computer crashed and I lost the entire video. I had to start from scratch and that unfortunately coincided with traveling to see family which only furthered my delay. Thank you all for being so patient!
This trek, the 5 Lagoons, was one of the most beautiful treks I did while in Argentina. It is an approximately 24 mile point-to-point trail connecting Coloniza Suize to Pampa Linda. It is in the same wilderness as my previous video and even shares a refugio! Because they share a small section of trail I cut that part out of this video to avoid redundancy.
Beginning at Laguna Negra I work my way South over the rocky mountains and down through the lush valley on my way towards Laguna Cab. There are some wonderful campsites down in the valley and around Laguna Cab that I would suggest if you want to break the days up into shorter easier days. From there I get lost in some trees for a brief period around Lake Cab where the trail seems to be nonexistent. After I make it over the next ridge and down to the next valley I contemplate setting up camp, but because I was excited to camp by a waterfall near Laguna Cretón I decide to push on late into the afternoon/early evening. I arrive at my campsite just after sunset and immediately set up my tent, make dinner, and call it a night. Since I pushed so hard I was able to enjoy a slow morning near the waterfall while enjoying the sunrise before working towards the next two lakes (Cretón and Calv). Immediately following this I saw a beautiful condor scavenging from above (one of the highlights of the trek). Finally I push towards Laguna Ilón and enjoy a sandy campsite along the water. The final day is a relatively simple trek out towards Pampa Linda, where you need to plan your drive out of town due to the road schedule (info in the video).
One of the greatest parts of this trail is the solitude. Because there are only refugios on the first and last nights you rarely run into others along the trail in between. Unless they start on the same day as you, you will likely have the trail to yourself!
If you are planning on completing this trek please feel free to comment with any questions you might have and I will do my best to get back to you asap.
