Vashishtha Temple Manali | Hot Water Spring | Ram Mandir | History & Details



Vashisht Temple is located at a small village around 3 km from Manali across the River Beas.

The temple is almost 300 years old and is dedicated to Sage Vashisth, who is one of the seven sages as per Hindu mythology.

The main attaraction of this temple is its hot springs bath area. This natural pond of hot waters contains sulphur which is good for skin and can cure many skin diseases and other infections.

Mythology suggest that the sulphur hot springs were created because on the same spot where Lakshman shot an arrow for the sage Vashisht.

There are separate baths for both men and women.

There is temple dedicated to both Saint Vashisht and Lord Ram. The Ram Temple is adjacent to the Vashisht Temple. Inside the Ram temple the idols of Ram, Sita and Lakshmana have been installed.

As per mythology Sage Vashisht was the Kula guru of Lord Rama. It is among the most famous places to visit in Manali because of it's simplicity and natural beauty.



According to the legend, Rishi Vashisht was left depressed on finding out that his children had been killed by Vishwamitra. Rishi Vashisht tried to commit suicide by jumping into a river but the river refused to kill him. He then started a new life in the village here. The river which took the rishi to the village was named Vipasha, meaning freedom from bondage. The Vipasha River is now known as the Beas River.


Inside the temple there is a black stone image of the Rishi wearing dhoti. The Vashist temple is decorated with excellent and beautiful carvings on wood.



There are so many small food shops, cafes and bakeries along the main streets of Vashisht. The tea and snacks will refresh you.
