Most folks might stay home after a big rain. I mean why fish some "blown out" creek with high dirty water as you try and dodge tree limbs, leaves and other debris? Will the fishing even be worth the effort? Well on this day I decided to give it a try and to be honest I really enjoyed the challenge.

I’ve never fished Roaring River during times of high water like this. Water clarity definitely drops but found the trout moving into areas less turbulent where visibility for them was improved which made it easier for them to spot any food. Once I figured that out I could see the open areas where they were holding. I tested a number of dry fly patterns, terrestrials, and streamers.

I did find it interesting that most of the fish caught they really liked to see action or movement, so a small twitch of the rod or skating my dry flies seemed to really work. With the water cloudy this movement might have helped them take notice. Basically bug fluttering in the water trying to escape the water.
