The Challenges of Identifying Dementia: Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA)
In 2015, Kathleen fell at work and had a concussion. But as some of her symptoms persisted, other issues cropped up that affected her visual and spatial skills. With her husband, Jon, by her side, the couple searched for an accurate diagnosis for her confusing symptoms. Finally, in 2016, Kathleen was evaluated by Dr. Jon Woodhouse, a neuropsychologist in private practice, who diagnosed her with mild cognitive impairment. Several years later, as her symptoms progressed, she again met with Dr. Woodhouse, who had become the Director of Psychology at Gaylord. She was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia called posterior cortical atrophy or PCA.
