The Lagos State Government continues to make remarkable strides in its mission to modernize the city’s transportation infrastructure. One of the most notable ongoing projects is the expansion and reconstruction of the access road linking Fagba to Iju Ishaga, with a major focus on Osho-Agoro Street. Managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and executed by Trusset and Fusset Integrated Services Limited alongside Trucrete Solutions Limited, in partnership with AFD (Agence Française de Développement) and consultants AEC, the project signifies Lagos’s vision for sustainable urban renewal.
The comprehensive upgrade includes road widening, improved drainage systems, and the installation of modern streetlights aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and overall traffic flow. This development forms part of a broader master plan to decongest key routes, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic growth across communities.
Despite its benefits, the project has posed challenges, notably the demolition of some structures to make way for expansion. While this has affected residents and business owners, many view it as a necessary sacrifice for progress. Mrs. Blessing Ikegwu, a wine seller, commended the state government’s commitment to infrastructure, expressing optimism that the completed road will boost commerce. Similarly, Mr. Fatai Yaya, a fashion designer, lauded the project’s impact but appealed for leniency in shop closure policies affecting traders.
Experts project that the improved road network will ease transportation, attract investments, and enhance property values within the area. The government has reiterated its commitment to inclusivity by assuring fair compensation and alternative arrangements for displaced residents.
As construction progresses, optimism remains high that the Abule Egba to Iju Ishaga corridor will emerge as a key driver of economic and urban transformation—reflecting Lagos State’s enduring pursuit of a modern, resilient, and globally competitive megacity.
