Under a starry night, the stout samurai Toshimitsu and his tanuki companion Taro rest by a warm campfire in a secluded cave. Taro proudly produces a bottle of sake he claims to have "acquired" with his illusion magic. However, upon taking an eager swig, he freezes—it's just plain mountain water!

Seeing the tanuki's stunned expression, Toshimitsu roars with laughter. "It seems the merchant saw right through your leaf trick!" Though there is no fine wine tonight, their shared laughter warms the cave more than any sake could.

“The road was long, the stars burned bright,
Two travelers found a cave for night.
Great Toshimitsu, mountain-tall,
And Taro, waiting for the alcohol.

"A toast!" the clever tanuki cried,
With pride and thirst he could not hide.
He tipped his cup and drank it deep,
Expecting sake, joy to reap.

But silence fell, then Taro’s squeak,
The color drained from furry cheek.
"No wine!" he gasped with sudden pain,
"It’s water from the mountain rain!"

The giant laughed, a thunderous sound,
That shook the walls and rocky ground.
"Your magic tricks have failed, I fear,
The merchant fooled you, Taro dear!"

No sake flows in cups tonight,
Just water cold and firelight.
But in their laughter, loud and free,
The truest friendship came to be.”
