Waterfiends can be killed in either the Ancient Cavern, Chaos Tunnels or in Ghorrock. I don't recommend killing in Ghorrock as they have a reduced crimson charm droprate. The Ancient Cavern is a fairly safe place to kill these for most players. If you have sufficient skill and stats, the Chaos Tunnels can give much more experience as it's in a multi-combat zone.

The Chaos Tunnels are extremely dangerous for killing Waterfiends. You can get 4 or more of them attacking you at once with magic and range (you can't protect against both). You will inevitably take lots of damage while fighting here. To kill waterfiends here, you'll need very good stats and items.

In order to kill here, I would recommend the following stats and items at least:
-120 combat
-67 summoning (war tortoise) or 79 summoning (elemental titan)
-Zamorak spear/saradomin sword
-Black dragonhide
-Super boosting potions (Extreme highly recommended)
-Sharks or rocktails (saradomin brews with overload)
-EMERGENCY TELEPORT!!!!

If you are missing at least one of these minimum standards, you should kill Waterfiends in the Ancient Cavern instead. It will be too difficult to survive, in all likelyhood, if you are under-prepared.

Waterfiends use both ranged and magic based attacks. Their range attack is significantly more dangerous than their magic attack, so it is preferable to use protection from range prayer and maximise magic defence. Once the Waterfiends are tolerant, it may be possible to use no protection prayer, but be wary when saving some prayer points this way. It's better safe than sorry!

When you are slaying these, it is HIGHLY recommended that you use a weapon with high crush attack. Waterfiends are weak to crush and very resistant to slash and stab. The best choice is the chaotic maul. If you don't have the high dungeoneering level required, the next best choices are the zamorakian spear and saradomin sword. I do not recommend attempting to kill Waterfiends here without a decent crush weapon. Using the saradomin godsword or the enhanced excalibur for the healing special attack is also highly advised if you can afford it or get the chance to borrow it.

Waterfiends are an excellent task for charms, the best that is assigned, with a crimson charm droprate of around 80%. When killing in the Chaos Tunnels, the Familiarisation activity can give you triple charms for a limited time. It is possible to get over 100 kills here in the time given, so you should expect something like 300 or more crimson charms from a decent Waterfiends task with that boost.
