The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved renaming Kerala to “Keralam,” reflecting the state’s original Malayalam name. The proposal, first moved by CM Pinarayi Vijayan, will now go to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for views before being introduced in Parliament. The change aligns all languages in the Eighth Schedule with local usage and comes ahead of upcoming assembly elections.
