In this session of the Women in Geopolitics Debate, African and international leaders discuss the future of women’s leadership in Africa and the steps needed to strengthen women’s participation in politics, entrepreneurship, and economic development before the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) deadline.
The discussion explores the major barriers facing women across the continent, including limited access to funding, weak networking structures, lack of mentorship opportunities, and the digital divide affecting rural women. Speakers highlight how collaboration, partnerships, and strong women-led networks can help entrepreneurs scale their businesses, access investment opportunities, and influence policy.
Participants also address the importance of mentorship programs for young women, the role of technology and data in development, and the need for institutional reforms, corporate support, and stronger implementation of gender equality strategies across African countries.
With only a few years left to achieve the SDGs by 2030, the conversation calls for urgent action to build inclusive leadership structures, expand women-focused investments, strengthen cross-border trade networks, and empower women entrepreneurs across Africa.
This dialogue highlights why women’s leadership, economic participation, and access to opportunities are essential for sustainable development in Africa.
An initiative of Leading Women of Africa (LWA), led by Madelein Mkunu, Beyond Boundaries is an independent Pan-African platform that amplifies the voices of Africans, especially women and youth, in global affairs, geopolitics, and governance.
