This is an incredibly powerful story with strong depth in the topic. Based on a true tale making it meaningful and moving, however it is put across with love and warmth to help the understanding at a child's level. The historical content is real, the Holodomor 1929 to 1933, but it is not written in a fearful way, more of a beautiful style from the heart. The illustrations are equally as powerful as the writing, they are dense yet colourful and pair with the words adding to the reality of the history of Ukrain.
The book is more breath taking to read because of present day events and there is so much to learn as each page is turned.
