While the Bowen family is questioning the police’s account of his death, they are angry that the police department denies knowing of his mental state. Catherine Bowen says that her brother has interfaced with the cops on multiple occasions over the years because of his mental condition. She says the cops had responded and provided support in several instances in the past when he acted aggressively. So she is very upset that on Monday, Commissioner Chester Williams told the press that Bowen wasn’t someone who displayed signs of wanting to cause self-harm or to injure others. Added to that, Bowen says she feels that the Belize Police Department has disrespected her family because she has yet to hear from the higher-ups in the department and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
