Final Fantasy All Main Themes (1-16)

Описание: After I made a compilation for all the preludes in the main line FF games almost a year ago now, a commenter recently suggested that I do one for the "main themes" as well!

I expected the editing and research process for this comp to feel very similar to that of the Prelude comp, however I noticed a particular difference that, to me, feels worth pointing out here. As you likely know, the Prelude is a classic tune that we know from all of the FF games, and it ultimately serves as the glue that connects them together as one cohesive series. However, the "Main Theme" for each game can vary wildly from that of the other games, since each song was composed with only one game in mind, rather than the entire series.

I think the sense of variety that we can hear between each of the main themes comes from the fact that each game was designed by a unique team with a unique intention. During the development of each game, Square approached the definition of "Final Fantasy" differently, and at different time periods in gaming history where different concepts were favored over others. For example, FF7's main theme is a lengthy, triumphant track that persists through out the game's overworld, driving home a combined sense of adventure and urgency as our team of heroes combs the entire world to find the Man in Black: Sephiroth. All the while, FF9's main theme serves as both a foundational set piece as well as a narrative promise of sorts, ensuring the player that despite all of the places that the heroes are about to set off to, they will, for certain, find their way home someday. And these are just 2 of the 16 main themes in this video, all of which can convey some kind of unique meaning to the player. I encourage you to find these meanings for yourself as you listen!

Ultimately, while my Prelude compilation celebrates the cohesion and legacy of the Final Fantasy franchise, this compilation instead aims to highlight the unique narratives and atmospheres of each individual entry. And while not every game has a distinctly titled "Main Theme", I did my best to compile the tracks that most effectively accomplish that objective in each game.
