Welcome to the Isle of Arran, often called “Scotland in Miniature”—and for good reason. Just a short ferry ride from the mainland, Arran packs dramatic Highland mountains, gentle Lowland hills, ancient standing stones, wild coastlines, and unforgettable food and drink into one perfectly sized island.
Our journey begins in Brodick, Arran’s main ferry port, where you’ll discover how the island is literally split in two by the Highland Boundary Fault. To the north rise rugged peaks like Goat Fell, offering epic hikes and sweeping views across the Firth of Clyde and beyond. To the south, the landscape softens into rolling farmland, quiet villages, and scenic coastal roads—two Scotlands on one island.
Arran’ has a great ancient past. On the west coast, the haunting Machrie Moor Standing Stones rise from open moorland, their origins stretching back over 4,000 years. Nearby, we explore Neolithic Giants’ Graves and venture into the legendary King’s Cave, where tradition says Robert the Bruce found inspiration while watching a spider persevere against the odds.
For outdoor lovers, Arran delivers unforgettable adventure. We tackle the climb up Goat Fell, the island’s highest peak, where the effort is rewarded with panoramic views that can reach Ireland on clear days. We chase waterfalls at the spectacular Glenashdale Falls, plunging 45 metres through woodland, and seek out the crystal-clear Blue Pools of Glen Rosa—a stunning (and icy!) spot for the brave.
Arran has charming villages along the island’s 56-mile coastal road. From lively Brodick and historic Brodick Castle, to peaceful Lamlash, looking across the bay to the sacred Holy Isle, and finally Lochranza, where a 13th-century castle stands beside roaming red deer.
Arran’s wild side—Scotland’s famous “Big Five”. Golden eagles soar above the mountains, red deer roam hills and villages, seals bask on rocky shores, otters play along the coastline, and elusive red squirrels dart through ancient woodland.
Arran is also a dream destination for food lovers. We compare the island’s two whisky distilleries: the classic Lochranza Distillery in the north, known for its elegant, non-peated single malts, and Lagg Distillery in the south, producing bold, heavily peated whiskies. Along the way, we sample award-winning Arran cheese, Wooleys of Arran oatcakes, and the indulgent Arran Gold whisky cream liqueur.
From ancient mysteries and epic hikes to world-class flavours and wildlife, the Isle of Arran truly captures the soul of Scotland. If this journey inspires you, give the video a thumbs up and subscribe for more adventures.
