When we talk about smuggling and selling marijuana in the United States at the end of the 20th century, the Colombian and Mexican cartels that supplied goods from their countries to the United States most likely come to mind.
However, few people know that at the same time, there was an organization within the United States that produced no less, and perhaps even more, marijuana than what the Colombians and Mexicans imported. Right under the authorities' noses, they harvested hundreds of tons of the drug from fields spread across almost the entire southeast of the country. They had their own strain of marijuana, their own code of silence, and later, as is customary, their own name, coined by journalists.
