Come and see! Sword and plague!

And I looked, and behold—a white horse!
He who sat upon it held a bow,
And a crown was placed on his head
He went forth, to command and conquer
When the chains of the second seal fell,
Another beast took peace from the face of the earth.
He rode a horse, fiery red,
Great sword was placed in his hand
And men turned their blades against men.

When the third seal broke open wide,
A black horse stood before my eyes,
Its rider holding scales of trade.
“A measure of wheat for a day’s wage,
Three measures of barley the same,”
Yet oil and wine were untouched and spared.

When the fourth seal was torn away,
I looked, and there stood a horse pale as the grave,
And its rider’s name was none other than Death.
He had power over a quarter of the earth,
Hades and beasts followed in his steps,
To kill by sword, by famine, and by plague
