Street protests in Iran, sparked by the rial's collapse, have continued for the 13th day in a row. The people of Tehran are burning down regime buildings right now. The crowd is massive. The Islamic regime has opened fire on anti-regime protesters in Fardis, Iran.

Deaths and injuries have been reported in Fardis, Alborz province, after the intervention of IRGC officers and security forces. Local residents report that security forces used violence during the clashes. There have been reports of deaths and injuries in the clashes as a result of attacks by IRGC officers. However, the exact number of deaths and injuries is not yet known.



Demonstrators blocked Ayatollah Kashani Boulevard, one of Tehran's main thoroughfares.

Security forces are using tear gas against masked protesters, dpa reports, citing eyewitnesses. Videos circulated by activists show police vehicles on fire in Tehran. Mass protests are also reported in Mashhad, Kermanshah, and other major cities.

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have completely restricted internet access for the population. The country is in a state of "almost complete nationwide internet blackout," according to the British organization NetBlocks. According to the IT company Cloudflare, internet traffic in Iran fell by approximately 90 percent on January 8. Presumably, only government officials and security forces retained free internet access, dpa reports.

Residents of Tehran took to the streets screaming after the exiled crown prince called for mass demonstrations.

Attempts to reach landlines and mobile phones from Dubai in Iran were unsuccessful. In the past, such outages have been followed by active government crackdowns.

This is the latest escalation in a protest movement that initially targeted Iran's deteriorating economy and has spread across the Islamic Republic. The protest was the first test of whether the Iranian public could follow Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, whose terminally ill father fled Iran shortly before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Among the slogans were "Death to the dictator!" and "Death to the Islamic Republic!" Others praised the Shah, shouting: "This is the last battle! Pahlavi will return!" Thousands of people could be seen in the streets.

"Great people of Iran, the whole world is watching you. Take to the streets and shout out your demands as a united front," Pahlavi said in a statement.

"I warn the Islamic Republic, its leader, and the IRGC that the world and President Donald Trump are watching you closely. Your repression of the people will not go unanswered."
