Can you build muscle while trying to lose weight?
You always hear “you can’t build muscle in a calorie deficit” – but that’s usually about advanced, already-lean bodybuilders. If you’re more like me – coming back after years, carrying some extra fat, not super strong yet – your body plays by slightly different rules.
In this attic session, I break down:
Why beginners and people coming back can build muscle while losing fat
What “body recomposition” actually is (not a bulk, not a cut – a bit of both)
How I use high protein (yes, including all that chicken) to protect muscle
Why going on a crazy low-calorie diet kills your strength and gains
How I set a small calorie deficit using rough maintenance calories
The simple rules I follow so my strength goes up while my fat goes down
If you’re not super advanced, have some extra body fat, and you’re willing to eat enough protein and train hard, you can absolutely change your body slowly, week by week.
This is my real experiment: attic workouts, high-protein meals, and trying to do fewer stupid things with food and training.
