Banana Shock: What It REALLY Does To Your Blood Pressure
Everyone knows bananas mean potassium. Far fewer people know that potassium only matters in relation to something else — and that the second half of the equation is usually several times larger. In this video: how sodium and potassium actually work against each other in your kidneys and blood vessels, why a single banana often moves the needle very little, which foods beat bananas for potassium, and the one group of people for whom more potassium is genuinely risky.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If you have chronic kidney disease, or take blood pressure medication — particularly ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or potassium-sparing diuretics — do NOT increase your potassium intake without speaking to your doctor. These conditions and medications reduce how much potassium your body excretes, and high blood potassium (hyperkalemia) can affect heart rhythm. Potassium supplements in particular should only be taken if prescribed. Your doctor can check your level with a simple blood test.
Welcome to Bite to Bloodstream — where we explain what everyday foods may do after you eat them.
In this video, we explore the food science behind this ingredient, the active compounds inside it, and what research suggests they may do in the body.
