Tips and preps for stop smoking session. So I'll be seeing you soon. And there are some things you can do beforehand that will help you to be successful and be a non-smoker. So the week before the session stop smoking in your car and in your home only smoke outside. Now for some people riding in their car all day, that's where they smoked. So if that is you, you want to think about having a bottle of water in your car. It's the same action of taking a bottle of water to your mouth as it is a cigarette, and you're drinking, refreshing cleansing water that's gonna wash away these toxins that have been in your body for a long time. So, have that water on hand and you can use that old habit and replace it with a new, healthy habit of the bottle of water.
Okay. So when you step outside, I want you to think about taking a deep breath in, and let it go. Do this before you have a cigarette. Some people think that smoking a cigarette is relaxing for them, but actually, a cigarette is a stimulant. So I want you to think about when you bring your hands to your mouth to smoke that cigarette, what do you actually do? You go, whew... that's what's relaxing. The breath going in and out. Our breath is connected to our nervous system and you're already quieting the nervous system. You're providing yourself with more oxygen. So if you take the cigarette away, what are you actually doing? You're relaxing yourself by breathing. So as you go through this week and you step outside to have your cigarette first, take that deep breath in and out, become aware of your environment, where you are, take that all in.
And then if you choose to have that cigarette, have the cigarette, but I want you to keep a log and a journal over the next week. So the first day you're going to keep the journal and the lock on. When you usually smoke, just keep a log. If it's 20 cigarettes, you have 20 different logs into that lock. And I want you to also recognize where you do it and what feeling or emotion you're having just prior to going for that cigarette. Now, the next day, you don't have to keep a log, but I want you to omit one cigarette, and you get to choose what time of day you omit that cigarette. And just notice if anything comes up for you around not having that one particular cigarette that day. So if you started on the first day of smoking 20 cigarettes, the next day would be 19. The next day would be 18 and you keep continuing going down until I see you at your appointment, and then you'll be ready to let go of smoking once and for all.
