If you've mastered the basics of Tacta, this variant offers a challenging solo experience inspired by games like Solitaire and FreeCell. Starting with a randomized layout, you’ll move cards one at a time to untangle the puzzle and uncover the next card to add to your sorted stacks.
Objective
Maneuver cards within the puzzle to release cards to add to stacks (discard piles). To win, move all 36 cards from the puzzle into into six ascending stacks - one for each suit (○, △, □) in each color, starting with 1 and ending with 6.
Setup
(Note: You can also play cooperatively after a 2-player match and skip this setup)
(Also note: Dots don’t matter in this version, just edge shapes, suits, card numbers, and colors)
Build Your Deck
Choose two different colored 18-card decks (36 cards total) and shuffle them together.
Build Your Puzzle
Place the X card in the center of the table.
You may place cards at random, following Tacta Placement Rules, or for a more even distribution:
Place the top card from the deck, overlapping any edge shape on the X card
Moving clockwise around the X card, place the next card on the next available edge shape.
Continue moving clockwise to the next available edge shape on the next card until all 36 cards have been placed. If you can’t place the card on the next available shape, simply move to the next card/shape until you can place the card.
The end puzzle should have multiple branches with many uncovered cards on the ends.
Gameplay
Sort cards into ascending stacks (discard piles). Move card within the puzzle to uncover the next card needed for the stacks.
Move Cards Within the Puzzle
Following basic Tacta placement rules, you may move any uncovered card to another place in the puzzle layout, as long as:
It matches the color of the destination card,
It is one value higher or lower (e.g., 4 onto 3 or 5)
If a card is removed from the X card, you may place any card (regardless of value or color) onto it, as long as it obeys Tacta placement rules.
Move Cards to a Stack
Stacks are separate discard piles. These can be moved away from the puzzle so as not to interfere with puzzle placements.
A stack must begin with a 1-card.
Add cards of the same color and suit, in ascending order.
You may move the top card of a stack back to the puzzle following rules for moving cards within the puzzle.
Example:
The blue triangle 1 is uncovered, so it can be removed from the puzzle to start the pile for blue triangles.
The blue triangle 2 is covered by the red square 5.
The red square 5 can be moved to connect to the red circle 4 because it is the same color and is one value lower.
The blue triangle 2 can now be moved to the stack on top of the blue triangle 1.
