I live with depression, anxiety, and seasonal affective disorder, and for me, that means the colder, darker months often bring a deeper struggle.

Sometimes I feel like it’s spring—hopeful, bright, full of energy and possibility. Other times, it’s winter—cold, heavy, quiet, and gray. It comes in waves. There are days when everything feels manageable, even joyful. Then, there are days when simply getting out of bed feels like an impossible task.

What helps me most in those moments is the quiet knowledge that winter does not last forever. Even when everything feels frozen or still, spring is just around the corner.

This piece is part of my unBroken Project—a musical initiative that uses art to explore, express, and destigmatize mental health struggles. This work is a meditation on hope: the belief that healing is possible, even if we can’t see it yet.

Written with a lyrical, pops-inspired sensibility, the piece flows gently forward, avoiding the weight of a dirge while still allowing space for reflection. It moves through moments of sorrow and quiet longing, into determination, and finally into a sense of renewal. The steady tempo throughout acts as a constant heartbeat—like time itself reminding us to keep going.

This piece doesn’t pretend that pain isn’t real. It is.

But it suggests that maybe, just maybe… the future holds something warmer.
And that spring will, in time, come again.
