Founded in 1874 by industrial chemist, Henry Davis Pochin, when he bought the Bodnant estate.
Pochin's daughter, Laura, married Charles McLaren, 1st Baron Aberconway, and succeeding members of the family developed the gardens until they were given to the National Trust in 1949.
The current gardens consist of 80 acres of hillside with formal and informal gardens, with buildings, including the Pin Mill with it's lily pond, and 'The Poem', a mausoleum for members of the McLaren family.
