O.K. this is to show off a new build I tried, revolving around the legendary wand, Four Sided Triangle (three of four). The main attraction of this one is the 100% chance to cast Firestorm (the weapon proc, not the Embermage skill, sadly), and unexpectedly the 5% fear proc. From my experience it's actually 100%, every autoattack fears trash monsters, so maybe Firestorm causes it to check the 5% multiple times or something? I don't know. Anyway, with this build you really only need to put everything on Focus, and doing so enables you to equip FST very early, around NG Act 3 if you twink a bit. From there on you can proceed to waste everything with just the autoattack. ForceField, which I previously hadn't tried, becomes more and more powerful the higher level you are. It's more than adequate at protecting you, so no Vitality needed at all. The shield is there mainly for Shield Bash and Fire Bash. Shield Bash is to quickly get charge, as well as for the damage, as you can see on the dummy its DPS is extremely high as the damage of SB is boosted by Focus. The massive mana pool also enables you to continue using it for a long time.
Fire Bash does a decent fire DOT at first, but the Tier 3 bonus adds a fire damage vulnerability debuff. This obviously works pretty well with FST and its Firestorm. However the destructive power of FST's autoattack is actually eclipsed by the likes of Seismic Slam which I only put points into very late. The radius is insane, the damage good and the DOT terrific. I fumble quite a bit here because there are too many options on how to kill your enemies and they never live long enough. I might have to try Elite with this one 'coz Veteran's just getting too easy for this.. As you can see, from 1-100 there were no deaths at all and about 74 potions were drunk in total. So I think this could be a pretty good option for an Elite Hardcore run. You might want to back up your FST first though.
Because of the FST's Firestorm p(r)oc, I stick with attack speed gems. The rock that drops/dropped from Nether King (lord?) is a good choice, I think, because of the additional meteor proc for extra AOE mayhem. The gems in the shield are just some random crap I had at the time. The humongous armor on the Netherrealm shield makes Shield Bash and Fire Bash obscenely powerful. As for spells, when leveling I had Adventuring instead of Elemental Overload. Three of the four slots are taken by non-combat spells (the potion boost isn't that significant because of how few were drunk) so I think it's a pretty good sign of how good the build, or FST rather, is.
Well that's about it I think. Next I would like to try a dual-wielding engineer with Wizard of Gore + Four Sided Triangle, as Firestorm procs even with melee autoattacks if you dual wield a melee weapon with FST.
