In Ex Corde Ecclesia, Pope St. John Paul II called on every Catholic university “to discover the roots and causes of the serious problems of our time... [and] to contribute concretely to the progress of the society within which it works.” In recent years, the work of service learning and community engagement (SLCE) has become an increasingly important mechanism through which Catholic universities fulfill this goal. This session will bring together leading scholars in Catholic higher education to explore global solidarity as we seek to fulfill our Gospel-based mission of “service to society” in ever more effective ways.
