Also read reviews on www.tripadvisor.com of place and hotels you are looking but make your own mind up.
If you are going to the USA you will need an ESTA this is part of the visa waiver program. Cost is around £15 https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ only use tis site. Anything else links to it, they area 3rd party and will charge you extra. Travel insurance is very important.
