RIP big man shield exploit. gone but no forgotten
luckily there are more exploits to cheese this event. if you thought it was just monkeys hiding in walls, well... there's a new monkey sheriff in town and he's in the drywall

1st clip: void peeking PGL engy
1. go to nearest wall
2. dig upwards slope
3. place plat roughly at foot level while holding w to clip your head into the wall, letting you peek into the void and shoot through walls
4. use the PGL terrain break to open up pillars and shoot the thing from the safety of your pocket dimension
observations:
void peeking with platforms isn't super consistent so don't expect to get it right away. i think i average around 5-10 platform fails before getting one that works and has a decent line of sight.
fat boy is one of the best ways to destroy the pillar, but most PGL builds will work. having the bouncy upgrade will probably not be effective
ensure you're far enough from the pillar to not get chunked by fat boy radiation. also make sure to avoid nuking a crawler in between you and the pillar (been there, done that)
sentries can be placed while in the void, but they kinda get in the way and usually need recalling before the fat boy time. they also have a tendency to just shoot the monkeys and not really do anything useful. setting them up directly at the base of the pillar probably will get you a bit more DPS (at least until they run out).

2nd clip: magic tunnel with stun c4
1. prep a magic tunnel leading from the base of the pillar (use pickaxe; not drillhands!). don't make it too short as you have to be a little bit away from the entrance to not get hit. make sure you have a decent angle to see where the core will end up (you can make the deepest part of the hole a bit steeper to see more)
2. head back out, prep a c4 for the second break, and drill open the first pillar
3. kill the core
4. once the pillar is regenerated, finally use your first c4 to break open the pillar AND stun any nearby monkeys. this stun gives you a quick opening to leave the saddam hussein bunker and place a new c4 for the final break
5. the rest of the fight is pretty straightforward after you go back inside, and you don't need to leave until it's over
observations:
"magic tunnels" are essentially steep inclined pickaxe paths that let dwarves through but not enemies larger than swarmers. what's likely happening behind the scenes is a quirk of the pathfinding algorithm and the way the voxels are constructed. you'll know you have a working magic tunnel if you're able to continually hold W and move forward with each terrain break, rather than needing two distinct terrain breaks to move (like you might on a flatter angle).
magic tunnels can sometimes be a pain in the ass to walk back through, but it's usually solvable by holding w and wiggling your mouse a bit back and forth until the game just decides to let you pass
stun c4 is pretty critical to not getting injured when you're forced to leave the hole to get the last pillar. i tried TCF shots and HE grenades too, but neither worked particularly well from this angle.
stun c4 is basically a gunner shield that lets you safely dart to the pillar and back to perform the last break risk free. if you have carve c4 you need to place it higher up and assume more risk, or just go from a wall looking over the pillar instead of from underneath.
going from beneath is nice because you have access to the weakpoint for quicker damage

other thoughts:
SUBATAAAAAAAAAA
the magic tunnel exploit can be performed as any class, though you still need to have a solution to break open the pillar (bosco works, but if you're true solo then sometimes that solution is a mad dash and a prayer)
if you're using carve c4 instead of stun c4, you can make the magic tunnel poke out from a wall instead of the floor. make this magic tunnel exit overlook the pillar and you can just drop the c4 down from above without even needing to leave the magic bunker. the only downsides of this approach is that it's sorta terrain dependent (need a decent wall nearby) and you tend to have worse angles on the corestone's bottom weakpoint. also if you miss dropping the c4 directly on top you might lower the pillar too much and make it harder on yourself
these are just proof of concepts that use existing exploit tech. i don't intend the takeaway from these videos to be "oh i should do that", but rather "oh that's neat. anyway".
