The Running of the Brides! Boston MA 2009 Hynes Convention Center - Stephen Scott Passarelli

Описание: It was a crazy morning for more than 1000 Brides as they stormed the Hynes Convention Center in downtown Boston today! Lining up since 7pm the night before, these girls had assembled teams of close friends and family members dressed in bright t-shirts and outrageous outfits to help their bride capture the perfect dress!

There were over 2800 dresses available from custom designers with original prices north of $9000.00! The most today's shoppers had to pay? A mere $699.00 for dresses worth from $3000.00 to $10,000.00... and hundreds available as low as $250.00, originally $1500.00!

One worker commented that there were more brides today, than they had ever had seen at this event before. After what may have been the first false start in the sales 62-year history, the brides counted down the seconds to 8:00am and broke through the huge banner that stretched across the doorways. There were a few shoves and bruises, but after the initial excitement of the "Run" wore off, the focus shifted to finding their perfect dress.

Instantaneously, the pushers became brokers as they walked up and down the aisles seeing what the other brides had grabbed off the racks. They traded and swapped dresses they possessed for ones that were the right size, shape and color. To ultimately acquire a dress that another team had captured, would require some kind words and maybe a dress that the others felt was an equal swap. Only then, would they agree to relinquish the beloved garment.

In the end... there were many tears of joy and happy memories. The "I survived the Running of the Brides!" t-shirts were perfect souvenirs for many. People from all over the world flew in to help their nieces and daughters; their best friends and sisters find their "dream dress!"

One story that I found touching, was when I heard about a bride who was literally in tears, because she had watched another bride try on and ultimately purchase, the dress SHE had hoped to find for herself. What touched me was that when the lucky brides maid-of-honor saw this, she actually went and searched through hundreds of dresses throughout the entire floor, looking for that exact same dress, in the exact same size as her bride's dress. Speaking with the buyers earlier in the morning, Nicole and Jennifer, they informed me that there are very FEW duplicates there, if any. This information combined with the fact that she had just given birth to a brand new baby only a week before, didnt sound like this story would have a positive outcome. However, determined, the maid-of-honor did not give up, until she finally found it... and bought it to the other bride... of whom, she had never even met! Tearfully, the girl thanked her new friend... and hugged the beautiful dress.

And really isn't that what this amazing experience at Filene's Basement is really all about? Providing high-end, designer dresses at prices almost any bride can afford... having a few laughs with family and friends, bonding with their "team" of bridesmaids and ultimately... making some new friends along the way.
