Are you pronouncing these words wrong? Let me share 5 quick fixes for pronunciation mistakes that I often hear among English learners.

Quick Fix #1

Don't pronounce "good" or "foot" like "food."

The "oo" in "good" and "foot" should actually sound more like the "u" in "put."

Repeat after me - Put. Good. Foot.

Quick Fix #2

Watch out for how you’re pronouncing the letters “ough” because it’s not always pronounced the same way.

It can be pronounced...
"oh" like in "no" - although
"aw" like in "saw" - bought
"uff" like in "stuff" - rough
Like "off" - cough
"oo" like in food - through

Quick Fix #3

Don't pronounce "urgent" with the same "u" sound in "rude" or "flute"

Instead, the "ur" in "urgent" should sound more like "er" (as in "bird" or "were").

Quick Fix #4

Don't pronounce the "or" in world, work, or worst like the "or" in "store."

It should also sound like "er" - think "werld," "werk," and "werst" (rhymes with "first.")

Quick Fix #5

Don't pronounce "music" like "MOO-zik."

Instead, say "MYOO-zik."

This is also the case with words like human, community, huge, university, and cute.
