Today, you’ll be hearing from James Shelby, a legend in glass science who has both academic and industry experience on his resume. He obtained his Ph.D. in Ceramic Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in 1968, then joined the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California. After 13 years of tackling glass-related challenges in industry, he transitioned to academia to pursue his lifelong passion for
teaching.
His research interests cover a wide range of topics, but he is particularly well known for his expertise in gas and water diffusion in glasses and melts, which earned him the prestigious Morey Award. However, he believes his most significant contribution to the glass science community is his book, Introduction to Glass Science and Technology, a valuable resource
for undergraduate students.
Though he is retired now, he remains busy writing a book on Germanate Glasses, which is expected to be published sometime next year. It was my honor to have a friendly conversation with him, discussing the past, present, and future of glass science.

Hi, I'm Mojtaba Abbasi, a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry (at the time of writing this description!). I've been working on glasses for several years. Recently NMR has become the primary characteristic technique for exploring the glass structure. I'll post content mainly related to these two topics on this channel. I am excited about this channel and look forward to sharing exciting content here.
By the way, I have another channel named Timeless Nature, in which I share nature videography and photography content, which are my new hobbies.
