"Chiều Tà" thực chất là phiên bản lời Việt (lời của Phạm Duy) từ một dạ khúc (serenade) Ý tên là Serenata hay Rimpianto do nhạc sĩ Enrico Toselli sáng tác. Đây là một giai điệu không lời mang phong cách cổ điển-lãng mạn mà sau này được viết lời Việt và hát rộng rãi trong các tiết mục tân nhạc.
