His successor, Ashurbanipal, crushed every rebellion — even Thebes, the sacred city, was looted and burned.

For a moment, hope returned when Pharaoh Psamtik I reunited Egypt in 664 BCE, reviving trade and restoring ancient traditions. But the rebirth was short-lived. In 525 BCE, Persian King Cambyses II swept through the Nile Delta, defeating Pharaoh Psamtik III at the Battle of Pelusium marking the end of Egypt’s independence.

This was not just the fall of a kingdom it was the end of the Pharaohs’ divine rule, the fading of gods, and the start of a new chapter in Egyptian history.

Yet, even in defeat, the spirit of Egypt never died. Its art, language, and legacy lived on waiting for a new dawn under Alexander the Great.
