The awesome Bryan Abdul Collins (ex Wolff Olins, ex Abercrombie & Fitch Co., ex Aéropostale) and I had a conversation and recorded it. I think the kids call this a podcast.
Just two creative career coaches talking shop. We kick it off hot by talking classism and racism. We then move on to our relationship with the news, how/when we enter a flow state, and being a creator vs. a consumer.
Then, we deep dive into AI & LLMs vis a vis craft and craftsmanship. Psst: we have different views and approaches to using the tech.
We go on to discuss what we think about design x business, the future of creative careers (graphic designers and designer-founders in particular), and how vibe coding can empower people (and take business away from web designers).
Importantly, we discuss the current moment of reckoning for creatives: Do you love what you're doing? If not, you can't compete with someone who does. And you might not be able to compete with AI. "You gotta turn it up." — Bryan.
Lastly, I talk about the "Sausage Maker Problem" — the reason why it's such a struggle for designers and brand strategy folks to do their own (essential) personal branding.
Whew! This was fun. More soon.
